Australian Dollar at a new high

This morning's Sydney Morning Herald:

Quote:
Australian consumers abroad can rejoice: the Aussie dollar hit a 24-year high this morning.
On the negative side - the US$ is going down in value. I have noticed prices are increasing in the US at the sites I have bought items from previously.

It's great, though overseas magazines are no cheaper... One I buy should be $4 cheaper now than it was 1 year ago. Cover price (in £) has remained the same.
Gordon & Gotch must be laughing their heads off, $4 profit on top of whatever profit they were already making.

Hmm, I'm sure it'll only be when the dollar is back down at something like 0.55 that I'll be able to afford some new equipment Always happens like that. Bought my 12" LX200 when the dollar was something like 0.50. Ouch.

Not a good time to travel , fuel is extortionately expensive.

Is a good time to buy and import stuff from places like the USA.

Wrong, perfect time to travel as fuel will never be cheaper, saw something a few weeks ago on the news that it would already be well over $2/L if it were not for the strong AU$.

Actually I've already started telling my friends one day we'll look back on
this day and say how cheap fuel was... and that scares them as they're
still feeling the increase of today and so do I. But the reality to me seems
$8 per litre will probably be on the bottom of the weekly discount cycle
if one still exists in 2015 and the fluctuations will be greater ...10's of
cents to a dollar or two, but still the by product will be that a lot of the
population wont be able to afford fuel or the alternatives (for a generation
or two, like colour TV). And that's where public transport will have to play
a major role...etc...etc...

I ordered an Astro-Physics mount 3 months ago - figured that if I was ever going to pay an incredible amount of money on a mount there wouldn't be a better time. Paid 1/2 then and now that the other half is due, the exchange rate is even better! That's a small consolation.
