Might be worth a try

The jetstream map isn't suggesting outstanding conditions for tonight...but certainly better than we've had for a little while - certainly here in Brisbane. It looks even better down the east coast (Mike )

A lack of yellow or green will be enough to have me outside tonight, especially with a GRS and moon shadow transit

I don't expect the seeing to be better than 5-6/10...but beggars can't be choosers at this stage.

Now, fingers crossed we'll have calm and clear low-level conditions. It's been windy and hazy the last few days.

Hoping the bayside breeze might help blow away some of that haze, Stephen.

Here's a link to the map.

Thanks for the link Matt, and good luck with Jupiter tonight! I'll drag the scope out and have a look too (although it's still very hazy here at St Lucia).

Cheers,
Stephen

Hmm, I’m out there right now and I tell ya…it ‘aint so hot where I am! Apart from thin, high clouds that keep getting in the way, Jupiter is bouncing around like a yo yo, although occasionally, the shadow of the transiting moon does appear as a nice round, black disc.

I’m suspect you’ll not be seeing anything from Holland Park West tonight, unless the conditions improve dramatically!

Cheers

Dennis

Hi Dennis.

Well, my hope that the local weather conditions would play nice has not been realised

I'm clouded out. I managed to get a few RGB runs on Jove before the weather took a turn for the worse.

The seeing started out as average as I thought it might be, but it was showing signs of improving when the cloud arrived.

I'll have a look at the AVIs...but I don't think there's anything in there to confirm your theory I'm living a charmed life on the bay under a magical seeing cell

I think this is the change responsible for the deteriorating conditions right now…

Brisbane Forecast
Issued at 4:15 pm EST on Tuesday 16 September 2008

Warning Summary
Nil.

Forecast for Tuesday Evening
Fine. Moderate N to NE winds, changing moderate to fresh S to SE early evening”.

Cheers

Dennis

Looked pretty nice here, but I have karate on Tuesday nights. I can tell you that it's ALWAYS bloody clear on a Tuesday night lately, when I'm not available! grumble grumble.

I had a quick look last night, but the conditions weren't great. The haze certainly hadn't cleared - I could barely find the Southern Cross at 7:30!

It sounds as though the haze was covering everywhere from Brisbane to northern NSW, which seems like a pretty big area for a haze. Does anyone know what caused it?

Hi Shnoz!

Probably the very gusty winds from the day(s) before, maybe whipping up dust etc.

That sounds like a good explanation. Now I can let my friends know the sky is indeed not falling.
