Whirlpool Sketch

This section is called 'Observational Astronomy', but at the moment I am in the midst of 'Non-Observational Astronomy' due to the weather (still!!).

Because I can't see anything outside here is a sketch I did tonight of the Whirlpool Galaxy M51 and it's companion NGC5195.

I sketched it from the photo in Aust Sky & Telescope July 2005, pages 40 & 41 and from memory of other pics of it.

Enjoy! (just pretend you are looking through an EP at it!)

Thanks John. That's the effect I was after. Flattery will get you everywhere.

Just to prove to others that it isn't a photo, here is my original drawing and the mag I copied from, first in the original sketch and then the inverted version.

Thanks Darren.

I am waiting to get to my EP so I can sketch what I can really see. That will be the test! Not sitting in a warm loungeroom watching TV and sketching from magazines.

Awesome Ken!!!!

I wish I could sketch like that, very talented!!!

I'm good at Pen/Dunce and that's about it for me!

Going by the size it would look great framed and up on your wall for all visitors to see

look forward to see more

regards

Thanks Rob.

It's actually quite small, plus if I stuck it on the wall no-one would know what it is.
I would need to print it out in negative for anyone to know it's a galaxy and I'm not going to use up my ink cartdidge on it.

Posting it in here will do.

Actually I think I will stick them up at the Star Camp so if anyone wants to try it they can see how easy it is.
