I am after tips and tricks that people are using to help them sketch the MOC objects. Like what sort of paper/pencil's they are using, drawing techniques etc, other tips?
I suppose it would be a more 'authentic' sketch to do it in white pencil on black paper though...perhaps? I'm not sure weather to look upon my way as 'cheating' or not. It's just as hard to sketch inverted because you have to remember that all pencil strokes will be white once inverted.
Nice one. Yup John has answered the question for you. I use the same method that he does. I get those sketch pads with the spiral bound from the newsagent and then sketch using HB or 2B (depends). I usually have a blunt one for shading and a sharp one for the stars. I start by placing the field stars and then sketch the nebulosity, etc in. I try to put in as much detail as possible under red light at the ep as I want to capture the essence of the object and not have to do too much touchup which I have to do from memory (dust lanes and stuff will have to be added later as you need an eraser to put them in). Then I invert the sketch after scanning. I must remember to sketch more boldly so the sketch transferes well when scanned and inverted. Oh and by the way I have started to experiment with a black sketch pad and color pencils. Let you know how that goes when I get some done
Pencil sketches won't be a problem for me as I draw portraits. It's the scanner problem. Mine died! No matter how hard I try, I cannot sketch as good with a mouse.
I'll try a pic of a sketch I did of my son jake to see if it will reproduce any good by downloading it into PhotoShop.
Thanks for the replies guys! I might go grab me some half decent pencils tomorrow, I already have a sketch pad.
I had a quick doodle of M55 this afternoon (no more than 2mins) using the image of it in starry night 2004 (which looks nothing like actual telescope images that I have seen online). Its going to take some practice but it should be fun! Here is my first non-genuine effort using a crappy unknown unsharp pencil. Image was inverted in Gimp.
