A Rough Night

Well last night might have been good in Broken Hill but it was awful here.

Attached is the scope page from my weather station. New record high wind and gust speeds last night at 19:38. 50kph gusting to 70.9! Needless to say I wasn't out in it, until something started banging loudly and often at 2:30am... It turned out to be some sheets of iron which had been secured for just such an occurence but the wind was gradually working them out from underneath their moorings.

Was blowing a gale down here all day yesterday as well. It was raining for most of the day with strong gusts of wind. If you took one step outside you would freeze instantly.

It is much better today luckily.

It was so windy here I now have a garden shed that I didn't own the day before. It resembles the one that is no longer in the backyard of my neighbours. I might turn it into an observatory.

The wind was so strong it killed my dog... well I think it was the wind or it could have been the tent peg I hammered through his back to secure him to the ground.

don't panic..I made the dog bit up

No flying sheds or dogs here but it was soooo windy it would have blown a 20mm Nagler out of the focusser and out to sea. I stayed in and watched the eclipse.

Tonight looks much better! The car is packed and thermos made. I'll be out of here in about 30 minutes.

I had a solid sheet of ice across the dam all day on Friday. It didn't last long today, bright sun and clear sky took care of that.

It also made the ducks happier.

"The rain was persisting down, cracking the cobble stones and there was something like a rubber glove, barking on the pavement. It was a dog, blown inside out"

Today was the first day I've seen the sun in about two weeks or so. Around here it's been rain day after day which caused alot of flooding and some landslides further north.

It's also been very cold.

But for now the weather is getting better but it's predicted to get bad again by about Thursday
Oh well wait and see I suppose.
