Took my telescope down to the local wetlands to get some close ups of birds I can't normally approach. It worked out quite well considering I was using an achromat.
A lovely portfolio of bird photos and a very impressive level of quality and detail for what I personally have found to be quite a challenging technique.
I love the lighting, reflections and ripples on the Little Grebe (?) photo.
Yep.. they are stunningly sharp considering how they were taken.. I would love to try the same but with a 6" refractor that weighs a little over 12kg and is 1.2m long, I dont quite think its possible...
How did you manage to get the focus so spot on with moving targets? I've got electric focus on my refractor and have taken a few photos of the city (25km south of my house) and of the lake about 1km down the road, and had trouble getting focus on still objects..
Thanks for the comments . Focus was by roughly focusing the scope then using the camera's autofocus. Nothing magical - all done for me. I was using my superzoom camera with a DCL-52 eyepiece and my little 80mm F6 achromat . Some shots used a 3X barlow. The VR-1 filter still did not remove all the CA which is more pronounced in the areas out of the focal plane. Think I'll have to get me one of those imported 127 apos for some real close ups.
