M20 and Friend With a Difference

Hi Guys, being a cold, cloudy, and windy night, what else is there to do than fiddle and re-process images.

Just for the hell of it I did the exact same images, and flats etc, in Image Plus, and Deep Sky Stacker, then tweeked them the same in PS2, the difference is certainly noticeable.

The finished products both consisted of 12 images @ 2 minutes and 30 seconds each at 400 ISO, through the Tak and 5D (modded) auto guided on the G11.

The first is with Image Plus, and the second with Deep Sky Stacker.

These two are un-cropped widefields.

Any comments welcome.

Nice piccies...I like the first one the best. The other has a tad too much yellow in it

Both are great but the first image is the pick of the two. Like renormalised has said, the second image looks a little too yellow.

What has caused this?

The first one has more stars. Flicking between the two, some reasonably bright stars become dim or vanish. Are the stacking parameters the same in both programs?

Two very fine images Leon.

Number 1 appears to be the slightly sharper and clear version.

number 1 for a few reasons is my favorite.

- Its brighter, more punchy
- Color appears alot more natural
- It seems to be processed a lot more carefully. 2 looks a touch rushed.

Well thank you guys, for some reason Deep Sky Stacker always has this effect on any image, it gives a more yellow tone to the final pic.

However thanks for your comments, I like the first better as well but put these two up to show the difference in Image Processing Programs.

Great image Leon. Jumping ahead in leaps and bounds now you've got the processing more under control. As the others have said, the first image displays an aesthetic colour balance. Both have their merits however. Well done, and look forward to seeing more.

Thanks Barb, Dave, agreed, the first is also of my liking but I just wanted to see what certain processing programs had to offer, things to play with when it is all cloudy and stuff.

First one is very nice leon - minus the yellow cast of the DSS stacked version. I've got to try a widefield of this area when the weather permits.

The modded DSLR has really picked up the extended nebulosity in the Lagoon and surrounds in the new pic
