Post Moon 20/6/08

Here's a shot I took of tonight's Moon. It was taken afocally through a Meade LX90-ACF 8" SCT f/10 F=2000mm, at a mag of X80. The camera was a Canon PowerShot A460 5MP at f/5.4, 1/100sec at ISO100. Seeing wasn't particularly great as there was a high level mist which you could see quite clearly....the halo around the Moon attested to that.

The piccie is somewhat off centre, no doubt due to my wonky hand positioning over the eyepiece!!!

I also did some visual observing of Saturn and Jupiter as well and you could see the atmosphere boiling around the edges of the planets when you looked closely....due to the mist. It wasn't worth going to medium or high power as the seeing really degraded when I tried it, so I stuck to the low power eyepieces.

As someone who lives in North America where the moon has JUST come above the horizon on 6/20/08 (you australians do the date backward! ) it's a bit weird looking at a picture already posted of tonights moon. It feels like looking at a picture from the future

How do you know it wasn't actually taken in the future?? (sounds of "Twilight Zone" playing in background)
