24th June Jupiter with 14"LX200

Hi all,

its been a while since I have imaged anything due to work and seeing conditions. Jupiter was very steady visually at 700x, but the finer detail was not comming through due to the jetstream.

Imaged with 2x barlow and no extention tube, due to the lack of sharpness.

Nice one Lester! The Jetstream is being a nuisance at the moment, hope it'll go away soon while we're getting these nice steady conditions.

Well done Lester, it has turned out great considering the jetstream.

improvements are good! Gotta resample those vids when you don't know how long it'll be till you can capture fresh data.

Hi Lester,

Look at the size of that! I only dream of getting Jupiter at 700x

Great image, I hope you dont mind but as I am trying to fine tune my processing skills I thought I might tweak your excellent Jupiter to see if I could do anything positive to it. I have attached my effort below, with some VC deconvolution and 1 notch up on red.

Cheers

Chris

Dont take this the wrong way Chris, but its now a very noisy image. There has to be a trade-off between smoothness and detail in order to have a good image... You could extract 100 time more detail from that, but if you introduce even 30% more noise, then thats generally seen as degrading image quality...

Thanks everyone for your comments, I appreciate it.

Chris, yes your image is more contrasy, but very grainy. It wasn't long ago, and I was doing the same. All the best as you learn this skill.

Hi Lester

Another gorgeous image with such a large image scale too. You’ve made the best of the less than optimal conditions and produced a superb portrait – well done!

Cheers

Dennis

Well done, Lester. A nice image indeed. Conditions have been terrible lately so it's nice to see Jupiter is still there.
