Hi All,
This image rounds out the panel (2xGalaxies,2xNebs). This image was more of a fluffer or fill-in image. I don't expect it to get a look in, but was entered to test the waters and balance the lack of intensity of the two galaxy images when displayed together.
Excerpt from CWAS entry;
IC2177 (center in frame) – Combination of emission, reflection nebula forming the shape of a bird
NGC2327 (head of the bird) – Presenting a unique lightening bolt shaped dark lane and blue reflection nebulosity causing a subtle pink hue
NGC2335 and NGC2343 (lower wing) - Predominate open clusters
Cederblad 90 (upper wing tip) – bright reflection nebula displaying pink hues and “little longbow” nebula
This photo is an [L+Ha]+[Ha+R]GB composite acquired using a Takahashi FSQ-106ED (530mm F/5) telescope and SBIG STL11000M CCD camera. Total exposure time is 7.5 hours (Luminance: 60min; Hydrogen-Alpha: 120min; R,G,B: 90min respectively). The image processing goal for this photo was to enhance the pink/blue hues of the reflection nebulosity, while ensuring the vibrant red tones of the excited hydrogen gases were not muted.
I didn't to much with this image and it shows, just equalised the background for gradient control - which didn't work overly well as it still present lower right.
Anyway, I wish everyone luck who has entered. You'll catch StrongmanMike and I in the closest pub considering I need to shout him a few to make up for the love loss. Will try to get Peter to sink a couple before his presentation/talk.
This is a nicer image than the one i previously saw, theres much nicer tones in the red neb with nice transitions from light to dark, the only pick is the coma in the top left hand side.

Thanks Clive. Yes, I struggled with the original Ha blend, but this one appears on the mark I feel. The print turned out considerably more brighter due to the aRGB to CYMK rip. Indeed, the coma you see is from the STL not being square with the optical path. This was an inherent problem with the first shipment of FSQ-ED's and the 4" draw tube focuser. There are fixes and work-arounds for this. I'm not too enthusiastic in pulling apart the micro-edge focuser, but will need to do it eventually. Thanks again.

I assume you have registerd for the conference then? Surely you are not showing Huberis?
Should the oportunity arrise, I will gladly have a beer with you
Oh and.....the Seagull thingy is O...K I guess?
Mike
Nice one Mike. You got me.
Your assumption would be correct (pending work/family arrangements)
Hubris - Nope, its a good opportunity to say hello to other like minded people sharing a common interest/passion. I hope to see you there.
Thanks Barb and David. The rework was not very complex compared to the other images present. Still had a reasonable impact. Thanks for your kind words.
Very nice, Jase. Good luck. Gonna be some stiff competition judging what we've seen posted here in the last few days (once entries closed )
I'm still not sure if i'll be making it to CWAS this year. They moved the date from July 12th (last year) to July 5th, which is my wife's birthday. Plus, I only get back from Nambucca on July 4th.
I'm sure i'll make more of an effort if I'm lucky enough to win something again
Very nice Jase.
Good luck with your entries in CWAS.
Regards
Steven
Thanks Steven. Appreciated.

Cheers Mike. I look forward to checking out the other entries. It will be an interesting comp. Shame you cant get there.

Thanks Steve. Unlike many other asterisms, the seagull neb actually looks bird like. No need for copious amount of alcohol to realise what it is. Thanks again.
The large version is stunning Jase !!
I love the subtle hues and fine detail.
As you know I've been a bit busy so trying to catch up on all the DSO threads on here.
I keep coming back to this one to sneak another peek !
Cheers RB. Its something out of the ordinary I guess. I remember processing the original and having issue with the Ha data. Needed to over come clipping straight after calibration. It was rather unusual. A little pixel math resolved the issue. Thanks again for your comments.

wonderful work.
Thanks Ric. I think the original losts much of the detail due to saturation. This one has is plausible.

Spectacular image jase, but seriously it does not look like a seagull, jeez did some American give it that nickname??
It looks like a major Mitchel cockatoo, even got the right colors, now thats a real Ozzie nickname for it!
i think the AUI should do a serious vote on this.
