G11 maintenence info

Hi Guys, seeing I am in the middle of rearranging my set, due to the fact that one part of it was sold recently, I thought it a good Idea to give the mount bit of a general service as well, nothing drastic, just a iol and grease i suppose.

Would there be some information around that might be of some assistance, and what type of grease would be suitable, please.

Thank You,

Leon

That link didn't work Fahim.

Let's try it again:

http://www.astro.uni-bonn.de/~mischa/mounts/g11_tuning.html

Dang! Still doesn't work.

Leon - do a Google search for "G11 tuning" - it's at the top of the page. I think it's more aimed at older G11's (pre-bronze worms), but could still be useful.

off hand..any idea what year the bronze worms came out? and is there any identifying mark or code to tell the age of a G11?

Actually Steve - I'm not entirely... (admission: or even partially) sure! I'd say within the last 12-18 months but that may be wrong.

Someone may be able to easily clear this question up. I understand that Losmandy has offered a "high-precision" worm set as an optional extra for years, but I suspect it may have been a better steel worm gear on a 7075 aluminium gear still, rather than the newer bronze worm gear which all new mounts (including mine - I've checked) now come with.

This yahoo group is also a great resource.

Also Optique vision have a worm and worm block upgrade that seems to be quiet good on paper. It has been mentioned in the Losmandy yahoo group and people are getting it in the us for 499USD shipped.
Here is a link to Ovision (translated to english).
