Jupiter 6-6-08

I was only out for around 30 minutes tonight... captured three avi's and processed them with a few slight differences.. one is actually not worth posting.. dont know what went wrong but it was very grainy.. I've had a continuing problem with the Phillips V-Lounge software, where I configure the settings for capture, and the image looks great before recording, but as soon as I hit capture, it reverts to the default 30fps, keeping my gain/gamma/saturation etc. resulting in average quality images.. It only does this once every 3 or 4 captures.. but i just know the time I get paramount conditions for imaging, its going to bust this out on me and I'll miss the shot.

Anyways.. heres the two that came out alright..

Why are you using v-lounge!? Have you tried k3ccdtools? v1 is free and it's infinitely better.

Give it a go

A couple of excellent Jupiter’s Alex. I’m with Mike – download K3CCDTools, it even has a batch mode so you can just set the SW to capture say, 10 AVI’s of 90 sec duration at 3 min intervals.

The SW controls and File Name/Save commands are better too.

Cheers

Dennis

Geez you capture some nice Joops Alex. I love how clear the planet's disc is around the edges. Very sharp!

Keep it up.

I've got k3ccdtools v1, but im having a few issues with it...

firstly, the preview window I get is TINY!! and square.. so its difficult to judge focus/quality of the video from that.

secondly, sometimes when I hit record k3ccd hangs... the computer continues running, but k3 is kaput.. requiring a restart before it will open again.

I should try qfocus or something other than v-lounge... its pretty limited

Thanks for the comments on the pics. I realise they are a long way of my best jups.. but I still like to post em anyways..

Alex.

Hey Alex, nice banding detail and I think you've got the colour just about nailed. It's a little dark on my screen, maybe a small Gamma boost.

cheers,

Rob

Your results just keep getting better and better Alex

I find K3CCDTools hangs sometimes too. I just shut it down with task manager and then restart it.

If you are getting a tiny preview, make sure the camera resolution is set correctly.

I've got it set to 640x480...

Any other settings I should think about?
