M8 Lagoon Nebula 40D

It's been nearly 8 weeks since we have been able to image due to cloudy conditions and moonlight

Had a good night last Thursday and have finally been able to process the data.

Details

Canon 40D Unmodded
20 x Lights 10 x darks all 7 mins. ISO 800
No noise reduction had to be applied

Good to see you back posting.
And, that's a very nice Lagoon.
Smooth processing and nice subtle colour throughout the nebula.
Not overcooked!
Great work
Doug

Good to see you back in action Barb and David. A sign of exceptional data if you didn't need to apply noise reduction. Well done.

Thanks Doug the processing was mainly dealing with the colour balance to bring out the red tones

Yep it's been really frustrating conditions lately Doug so we're glad to get some good data.
We have found that most of our images have very little noise in the subs and subsequent stack and with careful processing we manage to avoid any noise reduction on most of our images.
We mainly use noise reduction with galaxies when we have to draw out a lot to get detail.
Possibly good conditions and the 40D just does the job

Wow, looks great and I see with an unmodded 40D

Another target to add to my list if the skies ever clear.

What scope was this taken through?

cheers,

Rob

That's a great shot.

Have you cropped it, it looks like a square frame?

The Lagoon is an awesome object IMO...strangely my 100% non astronomical wife doesn't like my latest image of it though. My wife looks at astroimages in a purely asthetic sense and she says she "hates" the Lagoon...

Probably because it is basically a big fat magenta/pink rectangle..?

Mike

Well guys, it's what we've come to expect from you, but you still seem to woe us with every new image you post.
All I can say is my usual congratulation, because you know I really mean it.

Well done guys.
Beautiful image indeed.

The stack was landscape Mike so it was rotated and background sky on top and bottom of image cropped out.
It's funny how some non astronomical spouses have their likes and dislikes. We're lucky we're both bitten by the bug

Lovely image guys, I like the way the bok globules stand out against the nebula itself.

Fine work
