Rho Ophiuchus complex with 450D and 300mm f2.8 lens

Hi
After I got home from the Newcastle Astro Society meeting I set up to image this with the mighty 300mm f2.8 flourite lens from Bert, and tried the un-modded 450D. A modded camera didnt seem so necessary for this as most of the nebulae isnt red expept for a few small sections, most is yellow and blue reflection in nature.

6x10 mins ISO200. The 14 bit images and bigger pixel count work well. Hutech LPS filter used, as severe filter than the UHCS filter, which is better suited to emission line nebulae.

A fog got as far as the bottom of my street, covering all the low lying areas, but later retreated. It was very moist and dewy but perhaps it may have blocked some light pollution from streetlights. Had to manually remove a slight gradient across the image as levels weer strongly stretched to bring out the detail.

Incredible to be able to get stuff as faint as this from within a decent sized city, digital cameras just get better and better
Scott

Very nice Scott, very nice indeed, hell that is a beautiful area of the sky, now I can see the area i happen to have missed in my shot.
Those 300mm lenses do a great job, and you have used it to its limits, well done.

Leon

a lovely area of the sky, i havent got a good APO lens to cover this, nice job scott ,

i will just shoot it a tiny bit at a time. Will have to target the triplet star combination next time what youve done shows its quite a bit brighter.... i did the doublet the other day (see pic)

Fantastic Scott. You and Mr Mayo seem to be trading Photon blows to see who's camera caught the most photons in a week LOL. Simply stunning mate!!

Rho Ophiuchi the triple-star surrounded by IC 4604, the large blue reflection nebula is simply magical

Amazing result Scott. Lovely colour and detail.

It is great to see what an un-modded 450D can do.

Very well done.

Thanks all. The modded cams always have the advantage on red emission nebulae for sure
Alchemy you could do a mosaic, would take time but gee a fantastic image would result

Great shot! Such a fantastic contrast in colours.

What software did you use to stack the individual shots?

With a 100mm diameter of Fluorite goodness, a 14 bit low noise camera, autoguiding, and brain in gear for processing how could you go wrong?

Very nice result on a very difficult target Scott. It is good too see it all come together in one very spectacular image.

Very nice image Scott. The 300mm lens captures this majestic scene well. Only 2-bits away...what are you waiting for.
