Astronomy terminology question

My dad asked me if I knew a word to describe this and I realized that I don't know if there is one - I figured someone on here would know this though:

Is there a term that is used to describe when some celestial body breaks apart into two? Preferrably just describing that it splits apart, and that neither one is destroyed. I know comets do that sometimes - what's that called? hopefully something cooler than "splitting"

thanks!
