M8

Hi

I got a couple of hours out the back when storm clouds cleared the night beofre last. Fitted spacers and MPCC on to st2000xcm and tried it out on the Lagoon. The MPCC as I would expect has given me tighter stars and flatter field as it used to with my 350D but then I had a new problem ..... frost on my sensor .... so I am currently regenerating the desiccant .... 4 hours in the oven at 175 degrees C. I had noticed a little frosting the previous session but it was not as bad.
Anyway I have attached a shot with frost and a crop without. Frosted version is straight out of DSS with no post processing.

This is not a post because I think the M8 cropped image is great it's just to show the frosting really. Even with the MPCC I had bad tracking/guiding performance etc so slightly eggy stars if you look close ... so don't look !!!

Oh the exposure was 5x300sec @ -12 with my 200mm newt - IDAS LPS2 - UV/IR - MPCC .... then I called it quits.

Good result Steve. Agree, the stars appear sharper. On previous posts I thought this may have been a soft focus issue. Darn that CCD chamber frost.

Cheers Jase

Happy to report 4 hours in the oven sorted the frost to perfection. Did some imaging last night but haven't processed them yet. I previewed one frame at around 4am and it looked as though my focus might have been out slightly so it all may have been for nought other than added experience once again. Practice makes perfect .......
