A few Globular clusters

Hi all, I took the advantage of a lovely night last night to have a Globular fest. I always find globulars a challenge as it can be so easy to cook the cores.

These three are M4, M62 & NGC5986

Imaging was the same for all three as follows

LX200R 12", DSI II Pro with f/3.3 FR using 13m Ha filter
11.3 second subs x 100 exposures
Captured in Envisage and minimal processing in MaximDL, then a slight adjust of the curves in PaintShop Pro.

Hope you enjoy them.

Cheers

A nice collection of globs you have there.

I especially like the M4 image. Well done.

Are these crops?

Hi Matty, thanks for the comments.

The images aren't cropped, they are same size as they come of the DSI II through the 12". The scrappy edges are trimmed a bit to tidy up the image but that's it.

Thanks Jeff, I always enjoy the chalenge of imaging globulars and there is certainly a lot in the sky to pick from during this time of the year.

Thanks John, just about to order the cables and then the software after that I should be ready to roll on another learning curve.

Cheers

I like those images Ric, they are like the view through an 8" to 12" scope.

Hi Ric,

Nice shots, the extra FL makes for a more interesting image. I am curious why you chose to use a Ha filter on these objects as there is no Ha nebulosity to pick up?

A superb collection of globs there Ric. Well done. Was the use of the Ha filter on purpose to get tighter stars with the DSII - considering star bloat is common with this camera? What's happening to your narrowband imaging ventures? I hope to see more of these soon.

Hi Glen and Dennis, thanks for your kind comments.

Hi Paul, many thanks, The reason for using Ha is as Jase mentioned for the tighter stars. I find that while using the IR/UV filter the stars are a lot fatter or bloated, with the Ha filter I get a nicer tighter image which I find more pleasing to the eye.

Hi Jase and thanks for your comments, the narrowband imaging has been a bit slow getting off the ground. The individual images have been turning out quite well but when combining them they have not turned as good as I have expected. I have gone back to the Maxim manuals and had a re-read and discovered a few more things that I should have done and probably should not have done as well. So I think that they made be sorted out as well, I am planning a narrowband session for the next clear night, probably something easy to start like the Trifid or Eagle nebulas.

Cheers
