Singing in the rain

Singing in the rain (Opera of course) I was playing around with some of my images and zoomed in on the keyhole from my wide field image posted some weeks ago....

http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...05156/original

No aditional processing just a zoooooom in.

There is a link to the wide shot under this image

1100 - 1200mm FL is just about perfect really as it allows a fairly wide field of view with a 35mm chip to cover most nebulae etc but still provides enough image scale for closeup crops (1.6"/pix).

Mike
looking forward to Wiruna next weekend...imaging withdrawals or what!!!

Yeh not bad for just 1140mm FL I guess? Could do better though as this was taken when Eta was way to low in the sky and no where near enough exposure to allow for adequate sharpening, higher up and with excellent seeing the mind boggles.... Of course an AO and about twice the FL and aperture would be nice ....be interesting to see what Mr Pugh could get on this one..."now" the mind REALLY boggles

Magnificent Mike. Never mind singing in the rain, I would be dancing with joy if that was my image.

Jeez Mike - beautiful image, as is the original.
Incredible when you think it was taken from a Newcastle backyard.

Very nice crop Mike! The dark globules and dust stand out beautifully. Look at that fickle finger!
Nice to see another post Mike

Mike you could get arrested imaging thru a keyhole with so much detail.

Yes the Starfire provides what is probably the ideal FL for astroimaging a broad range of targets. 1140mm FL provides me with 1.6"/pixel which is a good image scale, while also providing a wide 1.8 X 1.2 deg FOV with my 35mm frame ProLine CCD so I can crop away to my hearts content knowing the resulting image will look sharp.

Yes it's a bit like that huh? Eddie Trimarchi did a beauty of the Keyhole a few years ago (perhaps the best amateur image of it?) using planetary imaging techniques ie lots of short subs stacked at a really long FL (over 4000mm I think?)

Ah, can never go past a quick Nessun Dorma or Vesti la Giubba while I can't image ...heck even if I can image, hope they like opera at Wiruna next weekend..?

Thanks Gary, plenty of dark globules in the Eta complex, that's why I had so much fun doing various croppings of the original full frame image, everyone looked like a different image in its own right

Cheers Houghy, the key is it's a great objest to image, kinda like our very own North American Nebula...?

Your cropped keyhole is every bit as good in quality to that pic (re-looked at the Tin Shed site). Extremely nice detail in your pic. Phe-frickin-nominal!!

Thanks Doug, my keyhole is quite nice I guess but I wasn't even trying that night, it was just a quicky. Much more exposure to handle more sharpening during processing and some short subs to layer in for the homonculous would be required to have made it really good. Besides at only 1140mm FL I can't work miracals either but as I have said to Eddie many times, his Eta close up is amoungst the best amateur images ever taken (of anything!) in my opinion. His colours are a bit strange but the detail is truly phenominal, I have never seen such detail imaged in the homonculus his imaging and processsing technique on that one were truly inovative for its time.

Wonderful image Mike, the level of details within the Keyhole is excellent.

A very enjoyable image to view.

Nice work Mike. Lovely details and delicate colours - the hallmarks of a Sidonio image. How about trying next time instead of giving us excuses that it was too low in the sky yadda yadda. Actually, I prefer your other post.

Ah, not excuses just explanations and relevant information. Eta was indeed low in the sky. If I want to really do a good shot of something I would normally plan for a more optimal sky positioning for the best sequenced run through LRG&B etc, this shot was only done as a fun response to Erics DSLR Eta Carina shot from two moths back, remember..?

Now I must go and prepair for our lunch guests...Hmmm?..wont be able to cook a reeeally good lunch though as I don't have all the correct indgredients, the stove in our new house is not ideal and.....?....

Excuses Mike
