Who wants a Dirt cheap Laptop.

Wow sight and sound. Acer 5315. 2gig Celeron, 80gig hard drive, 1gig ram. comes with vista. $648 with $149 cash back.

Piss off vista and install any xp. Then OGL is good enough for starry night.

Just add one of these :

http://www.gamedude.com.au/prod_show...bBR34mm_serial

And you have a serial port for the scope.

I agree. I Bought one of these late last year for astro purposes. Looks like they've updated it, so even better value! (Was 1.74ghz CPU and 512Mb RAM). I have kept Vista. Upgraded it to 2Gb RAM and she flies.

Does it run ok with vista? I upped ram to 2 gig for xp and it still dissapears now and then thinking about something but recovers eventually. Thats just windows. I didn't think it would have the grunt to run vista.

Hi,

Vista doesn't take much grunt, by modern standards. Any 1.8 ghz lappie (not P4) would be fine. It is happier with more ram though, at least 2 Gb.

Hi,

IMHO that isn't a large enough HDD these days.

Cheers

Slap on a usb disk for space, personally i wireless back to to the storage machine on my network.
We are talking under $500 here. That is less than an Ipod Itouch for a real laptop.

Yes I did, that is why I asked. But in retrospect I remember that it came with Vista Basic which probaby won't stress it too much. I do computers for a living and life is too short to **** around with vista

You guys should look at Graysonline auctions, you can get some very nice deals there with full manufactures warranty. My brother in law got a R61 for about 900$ 2.2ghz T7600 Core duo with 2gig of memory. The only downside was that the video resolution is limited to 1024. Still most people will not need more than that for typical use.

Fahim

If you want to talk about a dirt cheap laptop, what do you think of this?

Lenovo 3000 N200
Pentium core duo 1.7 ghz
1 gig ram
128 meg video card, dual display, s-video
15.4 screen widescreen 1200 x 800
dvd burner
built-in webcam
card reader (not sd)
Vista Business
AND the vista to XP upgrade discs included.
$697.00 from Big W

Just completed the upgrade last night... whoo hoo!

Thought I had to purchase the discs from Lenovo, but was given a bum steer by the rep on the phone, however at $82.50 for the discs would have still been a bargain if I did need to.

I now have an imaging laptop, all i need now is clear skies and time... does anyone know where I can get these cheap or otherwise?
