Saturn + 3 Moons

It has been a while since I have imaged a planet. I've been too busy imaging those faint DSOs.

I was lucky to find Saturn and its three Moons close together. The view was spectacular through the EP and i'm glad that I captured it. Conditions were good and held steady for most of the night.

The three moons are Enceladaus, Tethys and Rhea (left to right).

Great image Matty, very nice and tight. The moons look great in this one.

Just wondering, what focal length are you imaging at?

I'm guessing it's around f/10

Ric for this image I used a focal length of 4000mm.

So f/20.

Hi Matt - nice image of Saturn.
I have some noob questions though:

What type of barlow or powermate did you use with your scope to get the extra focal length?
Why is the image B&W? Are you using a monochrome camera and this is this what the filters are for?
Did you use the same exposure settings for Saturn and Moons?

I use a Celestron 2x Barlow for all of my images to increase the focal length.

The camera I am using (DMK) has a monochrome chip. If I wanted a colour image I would need to capture a Red, Green and Blue channel (RGB) and combine them to get a colour image. That is why I need filters.

If I can remember I used a 1/30sec exposure time with the camera shooting at 30 FPS for this image. I used the same exposure settings to capture the Moons and brought them out in PS.
