Orion StarShoot II Solar System Imager - good buy?

Hi all,

Just wanted to get some opinions on this camera compared to a DSLR. Is it better/worse for planets and the moon than using a DSLR?

Cheers

Hi there

Compared to a DSLR, it's probably better. But compared to other webcams, it's not as good.
The DMK is the best of the "budget" planetary cameras.

What's your budget?

What model DMK would be equivalent?

Budget would be about the same as the Orion. I want to balance quality with price

What price is the Orion?

The DMK comes in 3 models (suitable for planetary imaging):
DMK21AF04 (monochrome)
DBK21AF04 (colour)
DFK21AF04 (colour)

They're all about the same price (approx AU$400).

The ToUcam 900nc (at approx AU$100-$150) is the best entry level webcam if you just want to see whether you like it.
