SMC objects catalog for Cartes du Ciel

Not sure whether this is the right forum to post this, so moderator feel free to move if necessary...

I have been looking around for Cartes du Ciel catalogs covering some of the gaps in the Southern sky, but I had little luck, and what I could find did not work in v3 beta.

So I set out to make my own from CDS data using the CatGen tool. The first instalment is all 1237 objects from Bica & Dutra's paper 'Updating The Census Of Star Clusters In The Small Magellanic Cloud', all cross-referenced - I believe glenc referred to it a while ago.

Since there seem to be quite some CdC users in IIS I reckon I'd post it here in case it is of any use to others...

If initially your screen looks a bit cluttered it is because the SMC is cluttered - take a look at jase's stunning photo of the SMC here: http://www.cosmicphotos.com/gallery/...ld_album_id=12
and look at his largest size image if you can... you may recognise quite some of the objects you see on your CdC screen.

The zip file contains the binary formatted catalog files, the database in CSV format and a ReadMe.pdf with some explanatory notes.

Please let me know if you have any comments - it's now quite easy to make changes

Thanks, Glen!

Next on the program are 'A Catalogue of Southern Dark Clouds' (Hartley et al.), with cross references to Sa labeled objects, and the RCW bright nebulas you pointed at a few days ago, with cross-references to Colin Gum's work.

But now I'm faced with a sudden outbreak of clear skies, so it may take me a while to complete it

Before I tackle the LMC I may need a complete wet monsoon season with a few cyclones thrown in - and those are far and few between in Sydney...

Thanks Karlsson!:thumb sup:

I downloaded it the other day, but have only just got around to installing it on my desktop. Works like a bought one! I appreciate the work you've put into it!

I must say I didn't have much luck finding appropriate help for the installation so I winged it... it wasn't too hard to work out!
