after seeing some 5-7 min exposures l thought l would see what a longer sub would achieve.
1 x 20 min handguided
imaged with ED100 @f/5.6 with Canon 400D @iso 800 and Baader UHC-S.
guided through LX200 @f/10.
unprocessed except a single run in Noiseware.

great shot mick. although abit bloated near the keyhole which tends to loose the details around it. I know longer the subs the better but a 20 minute sub on the keyhole is overdoing it since it is already a bright object hence thats why it is bloated. overall still an impressive image.

thanks Eric, l wasn't really taking the image to get anything special just seeing what the outcome would be. l wont be taking 20 min subs when l do some final photos.

i think with the DSLR's, doing 20 minute subs only works well in dark secluded areas on faint objects. Anything over 15 minutes will tend to start bloating the image unless with some sort of light polluted filter. from where iam, i can't even do iso 800 running at 8minutes otherwise my image will become all white!.

20 minutes hand guided! Now that's an achievement!

Is there any reason you don't use PHD or similar to autoguide?

Lots of lovely nebulosity.
