Omega Cent

Here's my first attempt at tri-colouring Omega Cent with the DSI II pro from last night. 50x6 sec exposures stacked on the fly and RGB combined in PS.

I'm sure this would have benefited from longer exposures and I still have a lot to learn about post processing but not bad for a start.

Pretty good for a first try Peter. I'm still climbing the post processing curve to, so I know what you mean.

had a quick play with your pic

use an S curve in curves
bump up the saturation via hue/saturation
balance colour with centre eyedropper in levels (background)

hope you dont mind.

Don't mind at all Alchemy - I like your version better.

Can you elaborate on each step. I'm assuming S curve is self explanatory but are you boosting the lighter or darker section of the curve? When you use the centre eyedropper what do you select in the image?

s curve lifts the top of the curve (select point about 3/4 of the way up the line and lift) and the bottom of the s curve is about 1/4 of the way up the line and lower. this will boost your high tones and lower the darker tones giving you more contrast.... this is one of the simplest quick fix curves very common.

using the centre eyedropper will or should turn that bit under it to a neutral tone ie a red bit will become grey or a blue bit will become a grey tone, this is usefull for removing a colour cast it can be done anywhere in an image, in your case i just used the darker sky background.

cheers Alchemy
