Same here. Wont be sleeping at all. Going for a galaxy hunt in the rich galaxy fields of Virgo, Centaurus, Sextans and Corvus

Sure, I'll be completely screwed tomorrow but hell, can't let a clear night go to waste!

Hunting trip.

I just got back. I drove a few klicks out of town and set the dobs up out on the bitumen, and watched the moon set through a boiling heat haze over the hills as the mirror cooled. Its a good spot. You can't see a single artificial light at all. No cloud with 1/2 knot wind, and hardly any fog / mist. But the seeing was only 7 out of ten, with occasions of 8. But despite that I managed to find most of the NGC stuff between Virgo and Corvus. The wife came with me and she thought M104 looked cool as did the Milky Way. I finally ended up putting a 4mm plossl in the 2.5 barlow and was surprised with how well it worked on defining Rigel Ken and its friend. Have to do stuff in before midday, so come home. I think I'll have another go tonight as well.

Dave, you must live in a different Launceston to me, almost horizon to horizon blue sky ATM, a little cloud just on the horizon.

I was ready for an all-nighter, but of course it clouded out at 12:30am. I got up at 4:45am for Jupiter, and half the sky was clear - it must've been clear before and cloud was now heading in from the south-east again. 10 minutes later, cloud and light rain. No Jupiter for me.

Tonight not looking good either.

Both scopes are out in the back yard, either side of the tree - one pointing north and one pointing south. I'm ready to see what I can do from outer suburban Melbourne tonight. Unfortunately for first target, terminator has passed Plato in last few days.

I should have headed out last night (Friday) up to the hills - been kicking myself all day.

I spent an hour on the moon and Saturn tonight. Seeing was pretty ordinary. Off to bed, can't be bothered waiting for moonset.
