We continually forget.....

We continually forget that we are
dwarfed by the landscape of galaxies,
swept by immense natural forces; that
we are nothing but dust in the great
winds of chance and change.

Aloha & g'day OZ-zonians,

Can a dark sky community be green
and a catalyst to save the planet?

In thinking where to move my
observatory to, i find myself
wondering; "in a time of peak oil,
climiate change and fraudulent
world leaders, i must look at the
Big Picture!

Part #1

i've often observed how modern man seems
to be out of balance with nature. At one
time man had to "conquer" the earth.
Now he must save it.

Look at our "elders" who have been
good steward's of our mother
earth. The people who have lived
in harmony with her in a self
sustainable way as your guide.

The short list would be the African,
Polynesian, Amazonian, Aboriginal,
and American Indians. These elders
have a history of 1,000s of years.
Can the "Western Way" match this?

Can our materialistic, consumer,
industrialized war society live
on much longer at this pace?

Look at how dark their skies are.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a
tradition that you can pass on
to your children's children?

Is it not our duty to leave this
planet in the way we found it,
or even a bit better?

i am bringing into focus a vision
of harmony and balance. The best
of technology and old age wisdom.
Solar, wind, and simple living and
high thinking. Like the sages who
went to the mountain tops, or the
deserts, and meet with the astronomers
and star gazers.....

Having been to Africa, So. America,
Polynesia, Tibet/China and the South-
western USA; it has shown me people
can live in a self sustainable way.
Could this be a "road map" to
what some of us are looking for?

Part #2

Can a dark sky community be green
and a catalyst to save the planet?

Planning an observatory-retreat
that is self sustainable and in
harmony with nature is my goal.
You see Astronomy goes hand in hand
with expanding ones consciousness.
A "retreat" must also be far away from
the cities usually on mountain tops
or in the deserts too.

This is where the vibs are good,
it is silent, you are once again
with nature. Feeling alive, at peace,
and in a sense of awe at your place
in the cosmic order.

It seems that in today's world
the eco-lodges are the new flavor.
It might be a good idea to bring them
together. (with an observatory) For
balancing the body, mind and spirit
in us all. A return if you will,
to what is truly worth living for.
And a fresh perspective, a greater
view from which to act....

Yesterday when talking of this plan
to a new friend in Australia he said:

"The galactic center passes directly
over me and there are times when
instead of a consciousness that has
me standing on a flat planet I stand
on a sphere we call Earth at that point
I am aligned with everything ......
I am in space.. I leave this place to
a greater consciousness that makes me
aware of my insignificance and
importance all at once.....somehow
the trivial pursuits of me and other
humans has a perspective that I can
only call total peace..... I become
satisfied that all just "is"......"

This is the astronomical power of
"observing" under a pristine dark
sky. It's nice to know that others
have connected in this way.

There is a "paradigm shift" if you
will, that has come from the loss
of being attuned with nature. A
longing to re-connect with that
"something" that is missing in
today's world.

Now, there is a reevaluation of
our impact on this planet. i have
a son, and want to leave him a place
that is going in the "right direction."
And a place that is truly self sustainable,
has always been a Dark Sky Community.

be well, Lance aka "abellhunter"

Hi Lance,

All well and good, but I wonder how much is what you really want.

Are you willing to risk your child's life and not have him vaccinated, do you forgo the advances in modern medicine that have allowed you and so many of your friends to live as long as you have?

These are simply two examples of things our modern society has produced that most people in an industrialised nation take for granted. There are many, many others.

Have a good look at history before you pine for such a "simple" lifestyle, for it is the lifestyle itself you actually want, not the life.

By all means, cut down on your impact on the planet, it's a fine ideal, but don't sacrifice the hard earned gains of our ancestors chasing a dream.

Cheers
Stuart

Be "Centered", then act from that center....

Aloha Stuart,

like i wrote, bring the best of both worlds into "balance"....
i would never destroy those things that are worth while
in the "long run".

it's like surfing, you must always be re-balancing yourself
to the "center".....

88888888888888888888888888888888888 888888888888888

Imagine this:

See a circle split in 3 pie sections,
a triune, if you will. With a small
center circle in the center, also with
the dividing 3 sections:

1/3 are predominantly "Creators"

1/3 are predominantly "Preservers"

1/3 are predominantly "Destroyers"

All are made up of all 3 but you
will see that i used: "Predominantly".

This is not to say that any is better
than the other. All of them has their
place. You can call this the Wheel of
Life.

Now, those "Creators" who are "centered"
in the wheel, only creates what is best
and should be created. Things that will
bring lasting good to future generations.
Not things that will hurt themselves or
others.

Those "Preservers" who are "Centered"
in the wheel, only preserve what is best
and what needs to be preserved. Again,
things that are safe and true for everyone
on the planet. Not preserving things that
have been shown to be harmful.

So with the last 1/3 in the wheel of life
who are predominantly "Destroyers". They
have a very important part to play as well.
Those that are "Centered" in the wheel, will
only destroy those things that have proven
to be of great danger to us. And not those
things that are truly precious.

Life self balances itself, one-way or the
other. Those who are not in the "center
of the wheel" so to speak, are truly on
the outer edge and if they are not careful
will be thrown off.

The deal is, that in those pie sections, very
few are in the center now it would seem. So
each and everyone of us must constantly be
asking ourselves how can i bring my own self
closer and closer to this pure axis or center
in my own life?

May you & yours always be in fine health and
great calm, with gratitude and warm aloha,
Lance aka "abellhunter"
