Talking G Star viewing: Hydrus galaxies

Hello all,

I took this early this morning with the GStar on full sense up (intergated frames in camera for 2.56 seconds then delivered "live" to a monitor). Light pollution is heavy, sky seeing was fair and transparency was good.

The two galaxies in Hydrus are pgc 3740 is mag 16.2 while pgc 229031 is 17.8. These names and mag estimates are from Sky Tools 2.2. A faint galaxy is not seen which lies very close to the star of mag 10.94 (TYC 09355 0661 1).

The star on the lower margin of the picture slightly left of centre is GSC 09 355 - 1269, mag 16.01.

This image is compared with a section from the DSS.

Thanks Phil! When I took the image and compared it with the DSS image I was staggered to see an object close to 18th mag! The combination of Meade Lightbridge 16" reflector and the G-Star is living up to expectations.

As I said in a previous post,

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=27750

these images will never grace the IIS pic of the week BUT they are full of great information of faint objects. Also, to take a photo straight off the monitor is basic but works! The pic is a snap form my Nikon D40 off a Swann security monitor placed in negative display mode to enhance the contrast.
