Went looking for this tonight before the moon came up. Think I was close to the correct spot with a well aligned 8" Lx200 using precision pointing (fix in Spica).
Perhaps saw the comet with averted vision....maybe.
Reports show this to be at 12th mag or so at the moment ??? Anyone had a good fix on it yet ?

3 x ISO 1600 around 220 secs each with 10 inch F5.6 scope and EOS 300d
I managed to get a half an hour sucker hole to image 9P/Temple 6 1/2
hour after impact. The ejecta supposed to have moved out 40 arcsec or
so, but nothing is visible on the image, the coma is just 1 to 1.5
magnitude brighter (magnitude 10) than the day before and became more
stellar. The tail is clearly visible however.
6 x 100s with the C9.25 and the D70 @ f6.3 and 1600 ISO. Scale 2
arcsec/pixel.
Lasse Lindh figured for me out that the galaxy is PGC48179 with a surface brightness of 14.23. I also have a pre-impact shot, but I have to process that one tonight and consist of only 2 x 100s shots, so it won't compare that easy.
What I noticed though is that the coma became more stellar and brighter, which is quite noticeable in the image and was visually too.
It's a shame that many of you missed out, but be comforted with the thought that it wasn't that spectacular.
Spectacular? Probably not,but an event I'm glad I didnt miss.Events like this dont happen that often, especially when its a man made effect on the heavens thats viewable in a scope. Thanks again for the image Erwin, I've saved it on disc.
Erwin - Hot shot :-))) pretty darn similiar to our pencil drawing of starfield and comet in ep we made - except ours doesnt go down to the 17th -18th+ mag stars you have LOL and our rendition was from an hour before yours - although 15th mag stars were easily visible in the ep for us in 8"dob. But we certainly didnt see that faint galaxy nearby!!! But thanks that is now in my obs log/memento folder

I had a few visually peeks too and didn't notice the galaxy either. I reprocessed the shot a bit to get rid of the remaining trailing, it can be found under the same link
