Just experimenting with portraiture. It's not as easy as it sounds I'm discovering. Here are a coupe of Jenny I took this arvo. I REALLY need a proper, remote flash system. Oh well.. soon enough.
Our family went and had some pro shots done this afternoon for my MIL's 60th tomorrow. While all the make-up goop was still on I thought I'd take advantage of it and do some of my own.
These shots appear a little grey via my browser, but otherwise they are OK I think.
Post a shot of your own missus or mister!
Nikon D40 & 18-55 kit lens on full auto with 1/16th power flash.
Chris, most of my shots are usually hit & miss but I managed a reasonable portrait of HRH Liz using a F/L of 70mm (canon EOS20D) under shade with natural light and fill flash from the standard 20D pop up flash. At the risk of turning this thread into a post a shot of the missus here it is. Now I really like that last shot Chris.....

HRH Liz!! Lovely shot Bert. I like the natural background too. Pretty lady!
I've turned the thread into what you suggested so here we go everyone!
Chris, as a portrait I prefer your last (No. 6). Your good wife is certainly photogenic and thus a great subject for your experimentation. Good luck with the effort.
Perhaps you also need someone who is not as amenable to the camera as your wife - me for instance - in order to bring out the artist within?
I shall ask my wife if I'm allowed to post her image somewhere within this thread. While I am sure that each and every one of us considers their partner to be the prettiest or handsomest person in the world (and I do) I am also sure that we didn't marry - or hook up with them - for that reason alone. I married Chris, for that is her name, for what she is and not what she looks like.

Here here!
Well said.
I certainly don't concider myself a "Trophy" wife, nor is my husband a Brad Pitt look alike. We are what we are, just people.
Oh, I appreciate beauty in others, and hubby could appreciate Claudia Schiffer all day, but in the end it's still a case of handsome is as handsome does.
Like in the movie "Shallow Hal", I find it very hard to find beauty in anyone who is not already beautiful on the inside.
