Another archived image....

Centarus-A, imaged with some old and new cameras. The bulk taken a while ago with a SBIG ST10xme plus a new (2007 data) layer from a Apogee U47.

I'd like to re-visit this icon with some heavier artillery...but sigh...the weather....

Hope you like it!

Looks very stunning. Peter I am very new to the art of imaging, what are those lightly glowing rings radiating out from the image?

Matt.

Humm..... tweaked the layering, but gee, I suspect the (old) 8 bit data is not co-operating....this is what I get for being lazy...but if you are not running a 32 bit display on your computer, then posterization would be likely.

Beautiful image, Peter. I love the hot blue stars on the outlying regions.

Peter, no doubt about that this hobby is a bottomless pit but enjoyable when you can shoot images like that. The detail in that image is just unbelievable. Its now on my desktop background, to remind me what is ahead.

I like how well the blue starburst regions are shown too.
What actual telescopes were used to get the image?
Its good how its possible to combine images taken with different cameras and or scopes, not like the old film days

Scott,

I used my previous RCOS 12.5 F9 on a HGM200 for most of the data and a SBIG ST10xme. More recent data was gathered with my 14.25" RCOS F7.9
PME and Apogee U47. The seeing wasn't particularly good, and the camera has a (soon to be fixed) low level noise problem so it was used for the colour information.

I think this object would lend itself to some deep adaptively guided exposures...which should see a reduction in star sizes, they still look a bit bloated to me...by 30-50% ...on the "to do" list

That is a superb image. Very sharp with subtle detail in the dust lanes.

So much detail, particularly in the dust lanes.

I love those blue regions too

Fantastic image Peter, I really enjoyed the way you've captured the extensions of the dust lanes.

Cheers
