The Flame in Ha

Hi all, here is one of the Flame Nebula in Ha taken on Boxing day.

The details are
LX200R 12" in Alt/Az
DSI II Pro with f/3.3 FR and 13nm Ha filter
Taken using Envisage and minimal processing with MaximDL
50 x 30 second subs

To me it seems a bit soft even though my focussing looked good, I think that because of the warm night working on the mirror and camera it may have been working against me.

Still after so much cloud I'm pretty happy just to capture something.

Cheers

Good to see you back at it Ric. Indeed a pleasing effort. Plenty of detail. The data looks suppressed or clipped as the drop off between the light and dark regions is quick. Certainly not as vibrant as your HH you posted a while back. Look forward to seeing more.

TIP: If you did a quick DDP stretch in MaximDL. i.e auto background and midtones level, you may need to subtract ~100 points off the background to ensure DDP doesn't clip the black point. Then you can raise the black point later. You'll find that DDP will sometimes have a problem with determining the background. Keep an eye on the screen stretch histogram and you can't go wrong.

Hi Jase thanks for the tips, I'll certainly give that a go.

I think I may have rushed the processing a bit and can definitely do better in that area, still a lot of learning to be had in that area too.

I love the image scale, nice work Ric.
Wouldn't be easy to keep focus as you say.

Thanks Tj, I must say I am quite taken by it as well and enjoy the detail it pulls out as you say.

I do not mind the black & white images either, that must go back to my schooldays when I did photography courses and we only ever worked in B&W.

Cheers
