conecting to auto-tracking telescope with computer software

I have a program called "Cartes du Ciel" and it shows all sky things, (prety much a live skychart). I have an auto-tracking telescope and the controler plugs in with a telephone/internet/ ethernet cable plug. So I was wandering if I can plug my ethernet cable into the telescope and tell it to go to these places.

I am new to this by the way!

So can you tell me how to do this the best way or if there are any beter programs out there?

You will need to give us more details. The telescope is designed to be connected to something, what do the instructions with te telescope tell you? Yes many scopes come with plugs that look like LAN or phone connectors but this does not mean that you can connect them tot he phone or LAN, they are just uniform connectors.

CdC will plug into most scopes but you will need a standard PC/Laptop to Telescope connection cable for your telescope AND you will need to ensure that CdC has a driver for your specific scope. If all is well and the connection succeeds then yes, you can have CdC drive your scope to all points of interest in the sky.

Cheers

You might also need ASCOM drivers (a 15MB free package) from http://ascom-standards.org/downloads.html to make all the proprietary gear versus free or commerical software try and talk together!

Cant use an ethernet cable, the cable is more likely a phone type, that you will need an adapter for to plug into a Comm port on your PC. and yes the Ascom platform will most likely be required for CDC, which is an outstanding piece of software for the price BTW...
