Pier Restoration

Bert was kind enough (thanks Bert ) to give me his old pier (the one he used to capture all his great images in here over the years) and it was in a slightly rusty state, and the chrome parts were shot.

I immediately went into 'restoration' mode
I stripped it right back and Etch/Primered it all before giving it a few coats of Full Gloss Black. Then I polished all the rusty chromed parts.

The top adaptor wasn't included (Bert needed that part for his new pier) so Houghy was good enough to sell me one

Below are the pics of the restoration:

1. How the pier came
2. Etch/Primered
3. Gloss Black top coat
4. Restoration assembled
5. Close-up of polished bolts
6. Close up of polished adjusters
7. The Adaptor in place

Hi Ken, Great job it looks brand new. Now you won't want to use it in case you chip or scratch it.LOL.

I think you are wrong Hagar it now looks better than new. I have never seen it looking better. Very good restoration job Ken. It should nicely match your EQ6 and black telescopes. You will now need a torch to find it in the dark!

Bert
he can get flashing battery powered LED's and wrap the tube and mount in it - match the disco purple and the mirror ball in the main shack and never fall over it. Nice work Ken

Thanks all.

All black equipment in the dark?
No worries.
Once I turn on the EQ6 power switch I don't go near the scope again for the rest of the night until I turn off the power switch again at the end of the night

The advantage of a seperate controlroom
