NGC1566 Spiral Galaxy

After seeing only a few images of this particular galaxy in Dorado, we thought we would give it a try. We hadn't realised it was so small

We looked at the first frame on the laptop and both said "where is it". And there it was just a faint smudge.

It's taken quite a while to process to get anything half decent. So here it is anyway bloated stars and all. Don't blink you might miss it

Pentax DSLR 6 light frames each 5 mins ISO800 ICNR stacked DSS processed in PS CS2 Heavily cropped. Have included the original stack and processed stack

This is a very nice little galaxy. Plenty of surface brightness and detail. Love to see someone with special equipment do this one.

Hi
Nice image.
I took this and posted it during November (17.11.07).
Pushed a little hard to bring out the faint arms.

Great photo, is NGC1566 known as the Spanish dancer?

Excellent image! If it's that small in your 8" scope it'll be tiny in the ED80 at 480mm FL

It's one of my favourite galaxies.

A very nice image Barb & Dave. I imagine this one could be tricky judging by it's size but you have done a good job with it.

Cheers

We're pleased that a few have decided to try imaging and visually finding this galaxy. It will be interesting to see some better images by some using higher quality equipment than ours.

Thanks for looking
