Experimenting with different styles of Imaging

Last night was a fantastic night. 9/10 seeing and 10/10 trans, but very windy.

I took the opportunity of great skies to do a bit of experimenting. Gotta try new things or we go stale!

I visited some of my old favourites, but imaged differently for a change, rather than just imaging the same things the same way over and over.

For my first attempt at something new, I imaged with the Toucam imaging program switched to Monochrome.

Then, back to colour, the Second test was to image Keyhole Nebula without a Focal Reducer. A slightly closer look.

Thirdly, I left the Focal Reducer out and 2x Barlowed for an extreme close up of the Keyhole Nebula. Hmmmm, not a great Barlow!!!!

And the forth attempt was even longer exposure of Orion Nebula than I have taken before, just to see how far I can push.

I hope you enjoy my trials at something different

1. Carina B&W
2. Carina B&W
3. Keyhole up close
4. Keyhole 'In ya face'
5. Orion Neb at the longest I have imaged it. (12 x 3 mins)

I was originally hoping to image the 'Fickle Finger of Fate' at the Keyhole.

Maybe a better Barlow and I will get it. You can almost see it. I have placed a good pic next to mine to help locate it

Good job especially the Orion shot.
I had just been thinking how i wanted to spend some time experimenting too. Imaging time is so precious that I always end up doing the same, rush -in-image-like-mad type of thing
onya for experimenting!

Hi Ken

Some very nice work there, those long focal length images are quite tough to pull off, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing more from you. Looking forward to your next attempt at the finger!

Cheers

Dennis

Nice work Ken! It would appear you've squeeze out more data. Indeed, pushing the boundaries of knowledge/experience through experimentation is one of the keys to learning. Another is through mistakes.

Yep, Jase. Plenty of mistakes thrown into the 'Recycle Bin'. It's fun experimenting with different methods of imaging. I have already tried EP projection with mixed success, and these images were a mixed bag as well. And these are the better ones, so you can imagine the images I threw out!!!

Nice images Ken, it's always good to spend so time experimenting and trying new ideas. That way when you get down to the serious stuff you wont waste time trying to work what will and wont work.

Cheers
