Full Moon with Canon 40D with 70-200 F4 zoom lens and x2 converter

Hello,

Here is a photo of last night’s Moon (Sun 25th Nov) taken with the Canon 40D, EF70-200 F4L and EF x2 Extender. I’ve included a down sampled full frame (3888x2592) photo to show the relative size of the Moon in the full frame and an 800x800 crop.

The dark shading at the bottom of the Moon was caused by tree branches shading this section, as the Moon was very low on the horizon.

1/500 sec at F8 (wide open) at 400ASA.

Interesting blue tones, Dennis. Was that caused by the WB setting or the altitude above the horizon?

I discovered the “Filter” function in CS3 and applied a blue filter to the crop shot. It kinda reminded me of those cold, frosty mornings!

This combo may become my “grab and go” set up! Who needs a GEM, Polar Alignment, PC, cables, etc?

On a similar note, I have used a visible light solar filter on my 70-200 f/2.8 w/2x tc hand held with some success. It makes for a very quick grab and go check to see if I should set up the scope. Sure, I'm not likely to need solar filters any time soon, but I do like the occasional peek even when nothing is going on.

The same filters fit my 15x70 binos, so either one is good for a quick check of the sun.
