Today's round of the GT championships at Oran Park, NSW.
My wife Jenny's company sponsors a car and has a corporate box, so we made a day of it. These photos were taken (thanks to a pit/track pass) about 1 meter from these things screaming past me at just about 300kmh. Noise? Yep!
The Ferrari 430's were truly awesome. I've been to several F1 races and these 430's scream at nearly the same pitch, and are drawing a lot of negative attention at the race meets because they're so loud. Bring it on! That's why we go! They were visceral in the extreme. The Porsches are no where near as impressive these days I hate to say - and were no match for the current Ferrari's and Lamborghinis on this track today in either speed or excitement. They are clinically consistent I guess....
The Lamborghini's won the day, and are just beautiful race cars to watch and hear.
I was going to attempt to pan with the cars, but at 300kmh and literally 1 meter away it was utterly impossible. All I had time to do was pre-focus and wait for the cars to reach focus and then hope I hit the button in time.
Nikon D40 most photos at ISO200 and 1/2000th sec. Nikkor 100mm f/4, Nikkor 300ED f/4.5 and 18-55ED f/3.5
Yup - a real shame. Thanks to our incumbent state government who thinks that selling off land reserved for such venues as this is less important to the general public than being able to desperately re-fill their ill-spent bank account.
That's a bummer Chris, the "Park" as we called it was our home track when I was racing superbikes back in the 80's.
The long track was beautiful for bikes but there was never any room for error on Castrol corner with that solid wood wall, the original immovable object. I found that out once ouch, had bruises and aches for a month.
It will be a sad day when it goes, the "creek" is a nice track but no atmosphere I feel.
This was the same meet that had the trucks yeah? Any pics of the trucks? I would have gone except I was meant to play golf, but then I thought it was going to rain so I didn't play golf, so I ended up staying home on what turned out to be a clear day
having been to all teh local tracks (ie oran pk, wakefield and eastern ck) i can say that oran has got to be teh better from a spectator POV. lots of really good vantage points that are an easy walk wakefield isnt bad either but i am not really a fan of eastern ck
Tell you wot - the little D40 did brilliantly. I took over 900 shots that day - on a single standard 1000maH battery. The meter still said 3/4 full at the end of the day and even allowed me to upload every shot to my desktop when I made it home. Pretty disciplined power consumption I reckon!
hey - congrats to Cheryl on her purchase too Now I can't wait to see how the 200VR goes!
yeah, cant wait to use the VR too!!
should be tops!
I have accidently left my d40 on all day and all night... because it was using diddly squat power it still said full when i went to use it
any wonder why we got another!
As you can see here, the truck did quite a bit of damage to the thick concrete wall. In fact, with the chunks of concrete that flew off it, it's fortunate no one was seriously injured
Actually....my sister gets the credit. She just so happened to have the camera on the multiple shot mode (5 shots in succession) and she caught it.
The only person that was hurt was the driver of the truck, who got taken off in an ambulance. He was still conscious and talking, so it may have been a precautionary thing.
Check out this pic, this truck also went into the wall at the same time, not quite a good photo series though
