Anyone know where to pick one up cheap ??

What sort of drive training do you need it for Grant?

did an Autostar update to version 3.0i. Pretty sure that this requires me to re-train and also redo the backlash settings etc. Was gunna go through the process anyway hoping to continue on your good work

Also, have used the auto-updater to squirt in all the comets and asteroids into the hand controller - what a great system.

I got one from scopehead. he sells on ebay all the time. it's a Meade MA 12mm with illuminated reticle, comes with a Rigel pulse-guide illuminator. Cost about $70US from memory. It's a shocker of an eyepiece, as an eyepiece. But it's a cracker of an illuminated reticle for the purposes you described (same as mine)

it is handy isn't it I'm glad your having as much fun with it as I did.

As for training the drive, if you just center you target in say a 9 or 15 mm eye piece that will give you an accurate training. You could then do a calibrate sensors but again just a eyepiece will be enough. Probably the only time you'll need the reticle is when your doing your PPEC training and if your doing manual guiding for photography.

If you still want one and can't get one and your coming up to Ron's you can borrow mine for the night and do all the calibrating you want. Plus it will give you the opportunity to try one out before you commit yourself to a purchase.

Hi Grant

Let me check my accessories box - I may have one from my old days of 35mm manual guiding before I got into ccd stuff. If so, I'll PM you later this week.

Cheers

Dennis

Hi Grant, why not do the drive training in the daytime and as Paul said use a 9mm or less EP.

cheers
David.

I guess that is an option - just wasn't sure that even this small aperture would allow close enough estimation of the centre point.

It shouldn't be a problem. It wasn't for me. Just make sure your square to the eyepiece and you can see the whole field of view. As long as its close to the centre your scope will track fine. If you're going to do some imaging in polar and you don't have a web cam and say, K3CCDToolsV2, you'll need one for drift aligning. But don't torture yourself. Get a web cam and K3. Its soooo much easier and quicker
