Hmmmmm, Phil that is a tricky one, cause to each individual all their images are the best, but i reckon to date i like this one.

This is M20 Lagoon and M8 Trifid both in a wide field through the Tak 106

Leon

PS. buy the way I love your horsey, especially in (Black and White), you can see I'm from the old school, where HA never entered the vocabulary

So far It would have to be this one of NGC6523 in Ha as well. I found it very pleasing to image this as well as knowing I was finally getting ofn the right track.

Theres still room for improvement and I've yet to seriously get into RGB as well with the Ha as well as processing.

Cheers

PS. Your Horsehead image is fantastic Phil as is your widefield Leon.

There is something very special about, Black and White, Errr..sorry Ha Images, I actually prefer them above Colour, not that Colour is not good, bloody hell, going to get all tongue tied here, better shut up.

Ric, great image mate very close up and personal, and i have just realised, because i had to look up what NGC6523 was, that i have named my image in reverse.

Should read, M20 as Trifid and M8 as lagoon.

This is one I see as my best..or one of that group..I have many taken around the time I took this.

It was one of an intensive shoot over five allnighters.

In truth there are so many of these I am not sure this was the best of the batch but it will do.

It was before stacking and dark frame and would have been about 400 seconds single exposure unguided on an old chinese mount.

300d with standard lens ...in those days probably 1600iso but I have never been able to get nights as good as the five nights this came from.

I was so happy because it was miles ahead of anything previous..and as I said anything after.

It losses a lot from the big one but you get the idea.

Geez Phil,

Tough call! I have so many favourites (favourite Galaxy, Favourite Nebula etc).

Even though I really like Deep Sky imaging, this one still has a special place for me. My first at Full Saturation Moon displaying Mineral composition, imaged from Leons back yard 2006 with an ED80 on an EQ1.

Ken you raise a point ... if we get bored can we post more as we find them
The irony for me is I think I would have taken over 10,000 frames and many have maybe 40 to 50 variations because when I have little to do I play with them in an effort to find out what the software can do...most get deleted and I cant find the rest ... not knowing the colour has me with many variations colour wise...yet back to the irony I think there are only two print outs in existence..both of the one I posted... one hanging at Tabulam in the coffee shop and one in the draw here...it was the one in the draw that reminded me how much I like wide field.

I am going to see if I can find all the old files and do a stack..mm I think they were in raw..not sure there.. could be a couple of hours exposure anyways... five nights all night must have added up.

When I finish converting mine to black and white I may post more.. but talk about memory lane... I found 3 gig I had forgotten about of cropped widefields... I would love to make up an album... better to get rid of callers than holiday snaps I suspect.

Yes Leon just keep going ...it is easier to ask for forgivness than it is to seek permission..but now we are running I reckon we are past that stage.

You know the Eagle is something I have never had any luck with..funny... polar wont co opperate... batteries go flat.. dog bumps the mount (in the old days with a tripod so funny..electric worms at a disco.. dear little Kanga keeping me company having a good old fleaing session under the tripod..you dont notice black dogs in the dark..had me stuffed) I have gone after it so many times and something happens.

Nice work ..do you have more????

alex

Phil,
That is the bestest picture of the Horsehead region I've seen.
I'd love to turn it into a poster.

I suppose this would have to be one of the better ones - certainly the longest exposure I have ever taken - granted the focus could have been better
