StarPatch

I have recently installed trial StarPatch software on my Autostar controlled mount. As I already had mouse type GPS that plugs into USB port of your computer, all I have to get is StarPatch software and redirect utility. Operation is simple. You plug in your GPS to your computer, run the redirect and switch on the Autostar. In few seconds Autostar displays correct date, time and your position. Trial version doesn’t save it in the Autostar so after satisfying myself that it is working I purchased licence for US$80. From now on I don’t have to worry about updating time on my laptop. I recognise that GPS is not really necessary and I would not get one if I have to pay three or four hundred dollars for it, but for this price it is useful gadget to have. Added benefit is that you can download Autostar updates many times faster then you would with Meade software.
