Interested but very new to this, currently trying with Nikon D70s but am interested in getting a CCD dedicated camera, how would it compare with The Imaging Source DBK 21 Colour CCD Camera $499.00 (Bintel)

Hi Roger, I can't comment on the Imaging Source DBK 21 Colour CCD Camera as i have no experience with DBK cameras. However, depends on what kind of astrophotography you want to do eg: planetaries, widefield stuff or deep space stuff. Myself personally, im into all the deep space stuff thus that is why i first started out with the Meade DSI-C then moved up to this. Looking at specifications on the DBK camera, it is 640 x 480 whereas this is 752 x 582 so you will get a bigger picture size. Personally, and i can be bias here, the Meade DSI II will be better for deep space stuff whereas the DBK camera will be better off for planetaries however, both cameras can do vise versa.

Additionally, i think overall there are more DSI users than the DBK 21 Colour CCD Camera thus you will get far better support in terms of learning and the operational side of things.

You have to also consider what equipment you have currently which suits what type of astrophotography you want to do. Looking at your equipment (ED80 & EQ5 mount) that setup is only good for deep sky/widefield stuff besides if you want to take pictures just of the moon.

Not trying to convince you to buy my camera, but those where my sincere and honest opinion.

Cheers.
