How to get the degree symbol on a Win PC
Just in case anyone ever needs to mention "degrees" in a post - either in terms of position or temperature - just hold down your "Alt" ket and type "248" on your numeric keypad (with num-lock on) and then let go the alt key.
Example:
It was 27°C today.
My latitude is 34°4'12"
Nice!

Thanks Chris - I had previously been editing my posts in MS Word and using the Menu "Insert” and drop down “Symbol" function to do the same thing.
Cheers

Probably the same ASCII character Rally - but located in a different base font family.

Alternate characters are just so much easier on Macs. My fave is option-e "e".

Hi Rally
When I tried Alt 0176 in the "Quick Reply" panel, the cursor jumped out of the panel when I pressed 1, jumping to the top of the page?
Cheers

Make sure num-lock is on, Dennis?
I've always used Alt-0176 as well. 248 is one less key to type Thanks Chris.

Ahhh – thanks Mike. I used Num-Lock in Chris’ solution, but the numeric keys on the main keyboard for Rally’s solution.
Cheers

For OS X users there is a dashboard widget from taco widgets that when you hover over the character it gives you the keyboard shortcut - there are heaps - there is also a function that lets you drag the widget to the desktop - its cool if you need to type a lot of symbols
