Thanks to Karls help, I have finaly got the DSI taking images!
It was a rough start but by the 3rd image I got it happening
The 1st image - 47Tuc- was a disaster
The 2nd image - Tarantula - I knew I was onto something
The 3rd image - M42 Orion Neb- I am really getting the hang of this.
M42: 12 darks, 65 lights, processed in Photoshop at different levels, then taken over to easyHDR.
Hi Ken,
This is what I could find out about Gain & Offset from the net
The Gain and Offset controls work together and effect the camera output signal. The Gain control effects how much CCD gain is used by the electronics during the A/D conversion process (drives the display right, brighter). The Offset control adds an offset to each pixel so that no pixel has a zero value anywhere (lost data) and drives the display left (darker). For short exposures, under a minute or so an offset of 50 works fine. As you increase the exposure or have brighter objects you must decrease the offset so that the signal does not saturate (drives the histogram to the right and all you see is a white screen). You can adjust the offset values during the preview phase for correct value. For 3 min exposures I use about 40 offset. for 8 min about 15 offset. As long as the histogram display does not exceed 65K on the right or 0 on the left, you are the normal operating range of the camera electronics and it will not effect the image quality
I try to get a histogram with a small space to the left, not hitting the roof, and trailing off to the right.
I am still a newbie at this, but thirsty for knowledge, if there is anyone else who can cast more light on this, I would appreciate this.
Hope it helps
