David - the first one is brilliant, and I'd love to see a full-resolution version. The rest are very good too. Great lens huh! I have one similar - is the one you have an ED?

are you having fun with your DSLR or what?

Cheers
Chris

Excellent David. Really excellent. I might go out and try a few of these types of captures for myself. Must admit I've never really tried capturing moving targets of the natural kind. Thanks for the motivation!

Cheers

did you say you have the 300/4.5 ed chris? try it, its a great lens for the camera. you have to do aperture, shutter speed and focus manual but its worth it. I have to admit i was looking at the af-s 300mm f4 when i bought this one but thats 2 grand... no way i can afford that at the mo!

thinking of picking up some more Ai and AiS lenses tho. theres some cheap fast (f2.8) ones on ebay

Yeah David - it's the ED. Great lens for what I normally use it - long-distance portraiture. Out of the dozen lenses I've now collected, the only one that I don't have to treat completely manually is the kit 18-55 ED that came with the D40.

I'll give it a go for some birdie num nums using shutter priority...

wont work on shutter priority, you will have to go completely manual chris
still fun tho
its not hard to do. just set the aperture to achieve the dof you wish to achieve (i have been doing max (4.5) so far) and start with a shot at say 1/1000 on a sunny day and look at the preview to see if anything got blown out. adjust accordingly... of course i am preaching to someone who has been taking pictures longer than me and knows more lol!
nevermind

but yeah, it will work in manual only

Whoops - LOL!! Sorry David - I meant to say that I'll give moving targets a go using shutter prio - on the 18-55 AF-s, not the 300. My mistake...

oh, silly me!

you should go down to oran park on a race day if you want to give moving targets a try. the af-s is a snappy focuser and handles it well
