5 asteroids & 2 planets...

Decided to see if I could get a bit more out of the Capricorn/Aquarius region, just shooting off the tripod with Canon 400D.

Can't go any longer with no tracking, and can't open the camera up any more. So I just took more shots - 20 frames stacked this time, each 15-sec at 18mm, F/3.5, ISO 1600, stacked in Deep Sky Stacker. Cropped & stretched in PS CS2, and saturation of asteroids/planets selectively raised to 100%. Asteroid/planet positions from Starry Night Pro 5. The asteroid sizes given vary a bit according to source - mags of course vary over time, and these are for the time of shooting.

Trailing in top-left corner is a product of stacking - had a couple of goes, but no luck. Individual frames were quite tight, even when stretched.

BTW just tried to upload a small version @ 200kb. Rejected, told me it was 200.1!! Back to PS....

Cheers -

Excellent result, Rob. You're doing some nice work with the equipment available to you.
Once you get tracking, I look forward to your widefield stuff.
