hmm doh, you're right Thanks Ving, I'll play around with the settings some more and see if I can make them thumbnailed too.

The only other option might be that externally linked images are displayed as a link.

cant you put a limit on externally linked items? or at least ask that they be limited even if not enforced by the forum s/w?

There are options to limit by dimension, but I need to test whether it only applies to attachments, or externally linked as well. I imagine it's only for attachments.

I'll have to re-instate the guidelines for externally linked images to be no larger than 800x600, until I figure something else out.

only attachments. links are another thing entirely.
unless we stop people using img tags in posts all together, then there's not much we can do about that.

EDIT: where there's a will there's a way. external images are shown as links now.

I can't see why you would want to limit externally linked image sizes, that would defeat the purpose of having an externally linked photo. If you did that you might as well size limit the whole web...

It's for dial-up members Phil.. Someone could link to an offsite 1meg photo and the dial-up user spends minutes just to load the page.

If you have a large external photo, provide a link to it so people can choose whether to load it up or not.
