A worthwile read.

After all the media attention generated by Geoffrey Cousins in forcing our Federal Minister for the environment to delay a decision on Tasmania's proposed pulp mill, I thought you may be interested in reading Richard Flanagan's essay, the content of which prompted Mr Counsins (and others) to act. http://www.themonthly.com.au/excerpt...cerpt_002.html

It took a while to read it all, Phil, but certainly an eye-opening read!!!!!

Apart from the obvious permanent damage to the forests, this is scarey too: "Tasmania is once more technically in recession, and it remains the poorest Australian state, with the highest levels of unemployment and around 40% of its population dependent on government welfare."

It appears that not only are they permanently destroying the environment, they are also destroying people.

Thanks for posting that, it is a long read but worth it, it is scary that companies and governments can act so badly, I always hold hope that the Tasmanian tiger be found alive again, not much hope of that I'd guess.

A very enlightening read, but I have to say it doesn't surprise me. I'm not
a Tasmanian, but have visited there. But I do know I never liked that
Lennon bloke. I think I remember there were whiffs in the media about him
when he took over as Premier.

regards,CS

Yes, a lengthy but worthwhile read. All I can do without letting vent to my deepest feelings on this and getting too political is a paraphrase of Robert Burns "We are bought and sold for corporate gold, what a parcel of rogues in a nation"
