First derotated Jupiter images

Hi everyone,

I've made some more Jupiter images over the weekend and used a technique by modifiying the Registax project file after initial alignment and stacking to partially compensate for planet rotation. I used the same principle in 2003 for Mars, but somehow forgot to apply it on Jupiter as well. It's done with a C++ program that asks for the pixel shift during the recording of the AVI and for the time being works only with Registax V1.1 files. When recording for 150 s there is a slight improvement, especially in the white spots.

The first observation was made with 6/10 seeing:

Really great shots, I love the animation. Pity it's the boring side of Jupiter

How long do you normally capture for Jupiter? I've kept my total exposures to under 90 seconds, though I've heard others go up to 120 seconds.

After how long do the features start to rotate?

Sounds like an interesting program too - are there plans to make it work for Registax 3 project files?

Hi Mike,

I usually capture for 150s, which works even without the derotation technique.

Currently I'm in the middle of the planetary prime time, currently it is very user unfriendly and it will take some time to get that right.
