I just bought a "Hands-Free Spy Light" from Jaycar for only $5 (Item #1297). It's promoted as "a great gadget for spying" for kids over 5 (hey, I qualify), but it also works well for astronomy.
It's has a white LED, a dash of red lens paint fixes that no worries. It's fairly small, lightweight, fits well behind the ear and the light is very bright. And for $5... grab two!
And did I mention that it works well for spying too...
