Proud Dad again!

Our kids certainly know how to suprise us!!!

My youngest daughter, Jessica (16), wanted to enter the National 'Search for a Super Model' competition.
It is the same as that show on TV 'Australias Next Super Model' but this one isn't televised.

Being a good Dad, I encouraged her to try, but also warned her of:
1. the feeling of rejection
2. the demanding life of a model

Not to be swayed, she went ahead. She needed photos of herself, and she doesn't have a portfolio (coz she's never done anything like this before), and all I have is the little pocket digital camera, a $70 printer and no coloured ink (it ran out), so I had to print a simple pic of her in fading Black ink, on normal photcopy paper!!!

She went along to the panel of judges with her little black & white home made photo in a plastic pocket, and had her interview. She said the others were stunning woman with professional portfolios, expensive clothes, make-up fit for hollywood etc.

1 week later (yesterday), she recieved an email (and SMS) informing her that she has been selected as an entrant into the finals!!!!!!!!!
and she has to attend 'Catwalk' training and 'finals' rehearsals.

If she makes it through the finals, which involves judging in public of Catwalk skills, deportment, personality, presence, etc. she goes into the Grand Final being held in Melbourne. The winner gets a modelling contract for immediate work in London, Milan & Paris!!!!!

Good grief, what has my little girl gotten herself into!

And to think that she wants to be a Journalist and an Author! What a turn-around modelling would be!!

Congrats to your daughter Ken, that's one way to travel and see the world.

I suppose after that hectic lifestyle, journalism will be quite relaxing by comparison.

Cheers

Congratulations to you both!

Life can deal up some surprising twists! I hope she does well, but most of all that she enjoys the experience wherever it may lead her!

Fantastic stuff Ken.
There is no reason why she can't combine the two careers. While she's travelling the world modeling, she can write up stories for the fashion journals then do a book about all her experiences.

Well, tonight I had to take my Daughter to her Finals Rehearsal.

It went for hours and I occupied myself by window shopping.

After a while I got fed up with walking around town and went back to the rehearsal.

During the last 20 mins I got stuck out in the Foyer in conversation with Deborah Miller, the lady running the National Model search.

It was so hard being stuck out there having to talk to her. Soooo boring, and so uninteresting.

Oh, by the way, this is her: http://www.careerone.com.au/jobs/job...el-Agency-Boss

The hard things we have to do for our kids!

Just an update:

Well, my daughter Jess went to her finals. It was covering Catwalk skills, ability to work to the public, ability to display fashion, etc.

She didn't make the Grand Final in Melbourne.

BUT! The best part!!!
I said to her, does she feel dissapointed or sad.
She said "No way! I feel terrific. I learnt a lot and had a great time. I feel very good about myself."

I'm more proud of her for that, than winning a competition.
